When you have a large image but what you need is a small thumbnail, for example, what you have to do is resize the image. You can do that with the appropriately named Windows application Cool Image Resizer, an application that provides support for JPG, BMP, and GIF files. You can feed one or more images into Cool Image Resizer, pick one of several resizing options, and let the application quickly do its job.

The Cool Image Resizer installation file is a lightweight 374KB; even on a terrible internet connection it will take but a moment for the download to complete. The Cool Image Resizer installation process is incredibly simple: run the installation file, pick the installation directory or leave the default as it is, then hit the Install button. You will be done installing Cool Image Resizer before you know it.

You will also spend little time figuring out how Cool Image Resizer works and that is because the interface is incredibly straightforward. To the left there’s a dropdown menu from which you can select the folder that holds the image(s) you want to resize. Below it there’s a pane that displays the image files found inside the folder; you can select just one image from the folder, multiple images, or all the images in the folder. When you select an image, it is displayed in a floating preview window.

The resize process is nothing more complicated than picking an option from the “Select output quality” – this, of course, after you’ve chosen the image or images you want to resize. The options from the aforementioned “Select output quality” vary in size from 120 pixels (small thumbnail) to 1600 pixels (very large). For the resizing process to commence, just hit the “Start resizing!” button from the right hand corner. Cool Image Resizer will put the resized images in a folder entitled “resized” within the source folder.

Cool Image Resizer is shareware; you have a total of 30 days to evaluate the software for free.

Cool Image Resizer makes it quite easy to resize JPG, BMP, or GIF images – just that one image you need right now, or those many images you need for a project.

Pros

It takes very little time to download and install the Cool Image Resizer application and to get accustomed to the interface. There’s a handy preview floating window. There are several resizing options to choose from. You can resize one image or multiple images at one time. Cool Image Resizer does its job rapidly and efficiently.

Cons

Cool Image Resizer is free to use for a 30-day trial period.
